Preparing Future Leaders & Becoming Active Citizens
True North’s Civic Engagement Track helps homeschool students understand America’s founding principles, the Constitution, how government works, and their role as informed and engaged citizens.
Through a combination of virtual learning experiences, hands-on programs, leadership opportunities, and real-world civic experiences, students have opportunities to explore topics such as:
The U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, liberty, and limited government
How local, state, and federal government work
How laws are created and the legislative process works
Leadership, public speaking, debate, and communication
Civic responsibility and informed citizenship
How students and families can participate in the civic process
Rather than simply learning about government from a textbook, students are encouraged to see civic life in action through experiences such as Constitution Week, TeenPact at the Colorado State Capitol, legislative events, Capitol experiences, and other civic learning opportunities offered throughout the year.
Our goal is to help students grow in civic literacy, critical thinking, leadership, and an understanding of the freedoms and responsibilities that come with citizenship.

September | CONSTITUTION WEEK (Virtual)
Description: Explore the Constitution. Understand Liberty. Become an Informed Citizen. Bring the U.S. Constitution to life through a flexible, engaging learning experience designed specifically for homeschool families!
Throughout Constitution Week, students will explore America’s Founding, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the principles of liberty and limited government, and the responsibilities that come with citizenship.
Rather than simply memorizing facts, students are encouraged to understand why our system of government was designed the way it was, where our rights come from, why limiting government power matters, and what responsibilities we have as citizens.
WHAT STUDENTS WILL EXPLORE
DAY 1 | What Is the Constitution? — Why do we have a Constitution, and what did the Framers hope to accomplish?
DAY 2 | The Framers + How Government Works — Meet the people behind the Constitution and explore the three branches of government, separation of powers, and checks and balances.
DAY 3 | Liberty + Constitutional Principles — Explore limited government, federalism, unalienable rights, and the constitutional principles designed to protect liberty.
DAY 4 | Constitution Day: We the People — Explore the Constitutional Convention, signing of the Constitution, James Madison, Independence Hall, and the Preamble.
DAY 5 | The Bill of Rights + Amendments — Discover the Bill of Rights, how the Constitution can be amended, and the relationship between individual rights and responsible citizenship.
HOW IT WORKS
This experience combines a live virtual Kick-Off, short videos, primary-source exploration, hands-on activities, games, challenges, and age-adaptable resources for students in grades K–12. Most days include approximately 15–40 minutes of learning activities. Families can follow our suggested five-day plan or adapt it to fit their students’ ages, interests, and schedule.
Can’t complete everything during Constitution Week? No problem. The experience remains available on demand throughout the 2026–27 school year.

TEENPACT: Replay Information Meeting (Virtual)
Learn all about TeenPact Colorado through our prior information meeting held November 2023. Through hands-on and practical teaching, TeenPact helps students understand the political process, value their liberty, and engage the culture. On this information call, we explain all that TeenPact has to offer through their 1 Day Class (ages 8-12), 4 Day Class (ages 13-19), and Political Communication Workshop (ages 13-19). We answer questions about dress code, homework, younger siblings and parent involvement, the amazing staff that leads the students, and more!

TEENPACT: 4 DAY STATE CLASS (13-19 YEARS OLD)
Description: TeenPact’s Four Day Class provides a broad scope of state government in a hands-on way that will challenge and engage each student. Young people have the capacity today to make an impact and can be effective leaders in their community back home.
Hands-on leadership experiences, at the Colorado State Capitol, include learning about:
The political processes of our country and local government’s political process
Interviewing lobbyists and analyzing current legislature
Class Elections: Running for student office including party primaries, open forums, campaigning, elections process, electing Senators and Governor, etc.
Mock Legislature: Writing, presenting, discussing, and debating their own bill, etc.
NOTE: Students can earn high school Civics credit by participating in this experience.

TEENPACT: 1 DAY STATE CLASS (8-12 YEARS OLD)
Description: TeenPact’s One Day Class provides a broad scope of state government in a hands-on way that will challenge and engage each student. Young people (no matter their age) have the capacity today to make an impact given the opportunity to learn about, understand, and have a voice in their government.
Hands-on experiences, at the Colorado State Capitol, include:
Have opportunity to pray for Colorado leaders and decisions they make
Learning how a bill becomes a law
Mock Legislature: Discuss the bill they wrote prior to class
Class Election: Running campaigns in various capacities in order to see what behind-the-scenes looks like when candidate runs for office
This experience helps students visualize and better understand how government works in Colorado.
