True North Chaperone Policy
Guidelines
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT & AGREEMENT
Please read the True North Chaperone Policy and be prepared to acknowledge and agree to these policies on behalf of your family when registering for and participating in True North field trips and learning experiences.
CHAPERONE REQUIREMENTS
Typically, True North provides complimentary chaperone admission to the group at a ratio of one (1) chaperone for every five (5) students registered for a field trip or learning experience.
Because homeschool families often participate in groups with multiple adults, venues may limit the number of complimentary chaperones available to our group. When the group’s complimentary chaperone allocation has been reached, additional adult chaperones may attend based on venue policies and availability and will be responsible for the full admission cost. True North will extend discounts ticket prices where possible, as always!
Additional chaperones beyond the complimentary 1:5 ratio are not guaranteed admission and may be subject to venue capacity restrictions.
Exceptions: Some venues have unique admission and chaperone requirements. The following venues have their own separate admission and chaperone policies and may not adhere to the standard 1:5 ratio:
National Western Stock Show
United States Air Force Academy Planetarium
NOTE: Please review the specific chaperone information provided for each True North field trip and learning experience.
ELIGIBILITY FOR CHAPERONES
All adult chaperones must be a parent, legal guardian, or adult member of the participating student’s household.
Chaperone registration is limited to members of the participating student’s household unless prior approval has been granted by True North staff.
Families may register a maximum of two (2) adult chaperones per household unless otherwise approved by True North staff. Complimentary admission is not guaranteed for both adults and will be determined by the group’s available chaperone allocation and venue policies.
Chaperones may not register, attend, or supervise students on behalf of another family unless prior approval has been granted by True North staff.
SUPERVISION EXPECTATIONS
All chaperones must enter the venue with the group and remain for the duration of the field trip or learning experience unless prior arrangements have been made.
Students must remain with their designated adult chaperone at all times, regardless of age, unless otherwise directed by True North staff or venue personnel.
Students may not explore venues independently.
Chaperones are responsible for the supervision, behavior, and safety of the students in their care. In most cases, chaperones will supervise members of their own household.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
Please help students:
Walk safely and stay with their group
Use respectful voices and behavior while interacting with the environment (e.g., exhibits, animals, staff, and other guests)
Treat facilities, property, exhibits, artifacts, specimens, and other venue resources with care
Keep food and beverages only in designated areas when permitted by the venue (where applicable)
Follow all posted venue rules and safety guidelines
WRISTBANDS AND IDENTIFICATION
When required by a venue, adult chaperones will be issued identification wristbands or other forms of identification. Students should remain with their designated chaperone at all times and may be asked to identify their assigned adult, if separated from the group.
ENFORCEMENT
Failure to follow these policies may result in removal from the field trip or learning experience without refund and may affect eligibility for future True North learning experiences.
